Finds of February
1. Adding to my ever-growing collection of deer has become an affliction.
2. The perfect Valentines find, my 50p Tea for Two teapot from a junk shop in Hastings.
3. Two 1950's dress patterns, 50p each from Oxfam. Plans to resurrect my sewing machine are under way, any one know of any good beginners sewing classes in London?
4. Bundles of material, all bought for less than the price of my morning coffee, for bunting and patchwork and mini-wedding DIYs.
What have you found this month?

I LOVE that teapot! There are probably cheaper classes but The Make Lounge immediately springs to mind for beginners sewing classes in London. They do tackle particular projects but maybe there's a plain old skills class too?
ReplyDeleteThe Tea Pot is so cute! I found some faux white leather in a junk shop, going to make some collars out of it!
ReplyDeleteGinger Pickle ♥
Love all your deer :) And the materials look great, especially the Pierrot one x
ReplyDeleteLove the collection of deer, so cute.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see your sewing creations - I need a sewing machine to get back onto my making ways.
xx
I love the patterns and the fabrics! I can never find good dress patterns in my local charity shops :( I hope you share with us what you make :) xxx
ReplyDeleteNot found loads recently but have taken home a very lairy 70s orange breadbin, a signed hardback of 'Before I Die' and a lego board game for the kids. And a spicerack which I am about to make over to store nail varnish on.

ReplyDeleteWhat great finds! Love it all...especially the materials. Haven't really found much myself lately, but that could be because I haven't had the chance to look!
ReplyDeleteOh my! I need that entire deer collection in my life. I'll take the Russian dolls and fabric too, whilst I'm at it ;)
ReplyDeleteCatherine, XO.
Wow, where did you get that bargain fabric from? I'm always on the look out for cheap fabric for projects! I'm looking forward to seeing what you get up to with your sewing machine :)
ReplyDeleteR xx
I went to sewing/dressmaking classes at a college in Glasgow and to be honest they were rubbish and I've found learning on my own sooo much better! I found that the teacher in a class has so many people to get round that I spent most of the class being stuck on something and waiting for her to come over. Also the sewing machines were industrial machines and worked very differently to my little machine at home.
ReplyDeleteAnything I need to know I now learn from books and YouTube!

I'm going to try my hand at making clothes soon too! I was just going to wing it and have my mum on speed dial lol! I've found these really easy to follow patterns and it can't be that hard can it? I guess I'll find out!

Absolutely loving the teapot!

I'm an absolute sucker for vintage sewing patterns - these are GORGEOUS! I've been teaching myself to sew over the last year or so and it is so rewarding. I can highly recommend the 'Colette' sewing book if you're trying to teach yourself. I've also done a couple of the classes at 'Sew Over It' in Clapham (http://sewoverit.co.uk/lessons/) and they were really brilliant. I've done the Chic Cape and Men's Shirt classes but they also do mini classes and an 'intro to sewing' class. It's really lovely to be around people who enjoy what you do too! x
ReplyDeleteWow Ellie! Great finds, I'm quite a lover of woodland creatures too! And that teapot is fab, as always you have the best taste in second-hand xxx
ReplyDeleteThe Deer are adorable! I collect deer too (albeit mostly fluffy and china ones) x
ReplyDeleteLove those dress patterns I've been hunting on ebay for some 50s shaped shirt dresses like like but no luck so far. I went on a really good day course in Brixton to learn beginners sewing on a machine and make a bag but they have dressmaking and all sorts and it's great fun try this website for more details: http://ohsewbrixton.co.uk/
ReplyDeleteI have a similar obsession with deers - we have the same little fella :-) http://wordsonthetopic.blogspot.com/2011/12/kitsch-creatures.html
ReplyDeleteMy finds this month have included some great vintage pieces from Dublin and a 1970's half-moon table for just £4! http://wordsonthetopic.blogspot.com/2012/02/dublin-vintage-half-moon-table.html
