Where cooking gadgets are concerned, I don't have a lot of room for blenders, steamers, mixers or those cute new cupcake makers in my tiny little hovel of a kitchen. But when I was browsing the interwebz a few months ago, my eyes settled on these Williams Sonoma (the American version of Lakeland) cookie cutters. Alas, after adding them to my cart I realised they didn't ship to the UK. Woe is me. I emailed them and even considered investing in one of those PO Box companies which would ship them on to me but for baking paraphernalia I decided that seemed a little excessive. So when amazingly generous Hayley, from Ceriselle, announced she was off to San Francisco and asked if anyone wanted her to grab them anything, I emailed her begging her to search out a Williams Sonoma, whatever one may look like, and hunt down a particular box of cookie cutters.
At this point, I did realise I was becoming quite obsessive about a load of molded plastic, but infatuation had taken hold and I was already fantasizing about the wordplay-inspired fun I could have in the kitchen.
Hayley brought them back the States for me in her suitcase, which I cannot thank her enough for, and it's taken me until now to try them out because guess what? I didn't own a rolling pin. and apparently NOWHERE IN NORTH LONDON SELLS ROLLING PINS!
Anyway, after tracking down one of those lesser-spotted homeware shops and making a food-colouring massacre in the kitchen, the much-loved results are above. I just love them, I keep having ideas of what to write on them- swear words mainly, thanks to Sarah! But also, how brilliant would they be as place cards for a wedding? Everyone's name imprinted on them or as favours for guests to take away? Or even as wedding cake decorations! Can you tell I'm getting carried away? For now, I think I'll just need to be satisfied with my little Alice fantasy.
Gosh I think I want some now! xx
ReplyDeleteHow brilliant! Rude words would be the first thing I would think of too. As for cooking equipment, I usually buy anything we need from our Asda online grocery shop, it is too hard trying to find these things in stores (I'm North too). Though actually I think our rolling pin came from Freecycle!
ReplyDeleteYay! They look awesome!
ReplyDeleteWilliams Sonoma is a more amazing version of Lakeland (and I'm pretty obsessed with Lakeland) I spent so much time in that shop!
I like the sweary biscuits as well.
I love those! As for rolling pins if you cant find them you can always use old mr trusty wine bottle!

ReplyDeleteAnd thanks for the link originally, I would never have asked for them if it wasn't for you! (PS THANKS HAYLEY)
Oh they're glorious! I'd have been straight in there with the dirty words though, haha!
ReplyDeleteDo Lakeland not sell rolling pins? That does surprise me! Or I would have assumed that the homeware section in John Lewis/similar department store would have one. Hey ho, glad you finally found one!
Oh my gosh, what an amazing idea! Swearwords should definitely be on the cards!... I mean on the biscuits.

Those biscuits are beautiful, and would definitely be a pretty (and tasty) place marker. The Lakeland catalogue arrived through my letterbox recently - I couldn't believe how much crap they're peddling! I love a good kitchen gadget, but they are taking it too far.
