Yummy Hair? Yummy Night!

A few weeks ago I was invited to become an Aussie Angel and attend a Mad Hatters Tea Party at Mews of Mayfair- a rather posh establishment that sells £550 bottles of wines in central London.

I'm always slightly wary of these very kind offers- I don't blog for the freebies- and as clichéd as it may be, I refuse to be a brand puppet. You want me to write about an all new and exclusive range of dog leads or revolutionary tampons? No thanks.

But when Aussie asked, I had already been using their products for a considerable amount of time. They were polite-not pushy- and I definitely couldn't pass up a chance to meet some great blog-writers.

Aussie also have a great approach with bloggers, and a really dedicated PR team- they treated each of us and our guests brilliantly and don't patronise like some terrible companies and their PR.

The night consisted of us mingling and chatting and drinking champagne, admiring the beautifully decorated room and eating the delicious little canapés.

We were all given a presentation about how to effectively style curly/frizzy hair by a couple of the Aussie stylists and we were all encouraged to share our own tips and how-to's. Throughout the night the stylists were on hand for hair-makeovers and did some fabulous 1950's hair-dos on a few of the ladies (see below for pictures)

Amy from For Domestic Goddess, Redial after Aussie got their hands on her hair! A gorgeous 1940's re-style.

The big surprise of the night was revealed mid teacup-gin-cocktail. Expert milliner to the stars (Dita Von Teese, Alexa Chung etc) Katherine Elizabeth was there with her team to give us all a crash course in making fascinators and decorative hair-bands!

The table was laden with ribbons, beads, buttons, feathers and threads to use as we chose to decorate our very own piece. Katherine Elizabeth and her millinery team helped us along the way and it was pretty fiddly at first.

I think mine was quite a poor attempt compared to some of the girls' creations but it was very fun and we all had a giggle trying to sew everything together!

Add ImageLil from A Storm in a Teacup and Danni & Maria from Frills n Spills get stuck in with making their pretty hair accessories- I can't wait to see Maria post a picture of hers, it was so lovely and vintage-looking.

Showing off our newest wardrobe-additions! Myself and my two guests, Hannah & Mandy.

Hannahs pale blue fascinator with a huge ribbon bow and buckle and Lil looking very pretty in her lilac feather fancy, a perfect combination with her red hair!

My (slightly-lame) attempt at fascinator making! Love the feathers though, the green is beautiful!

As the night came to an end I said my goodbyes to some of the nicest girls I've had the pleasure of meeting and was presented with a gorgeous goody bag of conditioning and curl-defining products (which I used this morning and can confirm- like all their other products- they work a dream and smell absolutely divine- the boy can't stop smelling my hair!), some playing cards...

...and some mysterious but heavenly juice of elderflower or lychee in the sweetest bottle! And drink it I did, but I was disappointed to find I didn't shrink to the size of a mouse, nor grow to the height of a house!

To make up for the lack of magical happenings, I was delighted to find these kitsch cupcake beauties as the cherry on top of my goody bag.

So, thank you! Thank you to the wonderful Emma and Lisa who were running the show and were welcoming and funny and friendly.

And thank you to these lovelies who made the night so much fun! Go and add their wonderful, interesting blogs to your blog roll right now.

Ahh! I've always wanted to have a go at making my own fascinator but have been too worried that I'll just wreck all of my materials :(

What an amazing event, it sounds just lovely. It's nice to feel appreciated as a blogger and not like a second-rate attendee. And that goodie bag is awesome!
Lovely pictures, I always forget to take decent photos at events!

I love the cupcake earrings and I wish I could do 1940s hair (but mine is waaaaay to short). B and I had a tea party too this weekend and one of our friends brought two fascinators. I think I'll make that an "activity" for our next Murder Mystery themed afternoon.

Cheers!
